HS Football: Heritage Rolls Past Lakeside 60-7

The Patriot Defense Smothers the Lancers as the Offense Shines

Heritage extended Sunbelt League streak to 36 consecutive victories Friday night. The Patriots have never lost a league game since joining the Sunbelt and is the second-longest winning streak in area history.

Lakeside was red hot and had a non-league record of 5-0 coming into the game. This as the year they might have chance to beat mighty Heritage. It was not to be.

Heritage quarterback Devan Freedland spiced up the Patriot offense and threw for four touchdowns in the first half. The Heritage running game ground out 227 yards while the Patriots gained 208 yards in the air.

The defense shined as they crushed Lakeside 60-7 in their Sunbelt League opener. Heritage was dominate from the start, scoring 26 points in the first, 20 more in the second and 14 points in the fourth quarters. The only touchdown Lakeside scored came late in the game on a fumble return by Anthony Ramirez .

Freedland completed 10 of his 13 passes for 208 yards. He threw his touchdown passes to Rashoud Shelton,Tonga Tavake, Rickie Johnson, and Daniel Reyes. Ika Tuatala also caught 3 passes for 23 yards.

Rutendo Matiringe led the Patriots with 54 yards on the gound on just 1 carry. Jesse Estrada carried the ball 3 times for 45 yards and a score while Sherod White got 4 touches for 40 yards and found the end zone from 8 yards out. George Kasper and Jadyn Goosby scored running TDs.

The Patriots will travel to Elsinore to face the Tigers Friday night. The Lancers are home to take on Paloma Valley.
