HS Football: Heritage Runs Over Oak Hills 24-7 Friday Night

The Patriot Defense Shuts the Gates after the Bulldogs Score in the First Quarter

Heritage, ranked sixth in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Polls last week, rolled to their first victory of the 2018 football season Friday night. The Patriots were dominant in their first outing of the year against Oak Hills and pounded the Bulldogs into submission 24-7.

The Patriots relied on their signature solid running game once again. Heritage’s no nonsense approach to football has given the program an Coach Kraig Broach tremendous success. The running game and team defense has kept Heritage on top since 2010.

Oak Hills drew first blood in the first quarter. Josh Stewart took the Bulldogs down the field with an 11-play opening drive. The drive took almost seven minutes off the clock. Stewart capped it off when he scored on a keeper from 1 yard out to take the lead 7-0.

It would be the last time Oak Hills would find the end zone.

Heritage’s powerful running attack took over the pace of the game. Junior running back Kenny Teter scored on a 38 run in the first quarter to tie it all up. The offense drove to the 3 yard line in the second quarter and Teter scored again on a short run it make it 14-7 at halftime.

Kicker Javier Pedraza nailed a 23-yard field goal in the third quarter to make it 17-7. The senior was also perfect in his 3 PAT kicks.

Heritage would score once more. The Patriots ground out a drive in the fourth quarter with about two minutes left in the game to score on a 2-yard run by senior quarterback Trey Goodlow.

“I thought our effort and our aggressiveness was great,” said Patriots coach Kraig Broach “Obviously there’s a lot of stuff to work on. Our boys are very inexperienced, but man they play hard and they’ll get better as we go on.”

Heritage only threw 2 passes in the game. Goodlow, however, ran for 76 yards on 14 carries. Teter gained 73 yards on 14 carries for the Patriots. Senior Ika Tuatala gained 33 yards on 10 carries. He also caught Goodlow’s only pass completion for 23 yards.

Oak Hills senior running back Isaiah Gray gained 91 yards on 18 carries. The Bulldogs will host Palmdale next week.
