HS Football: Heritage Travels to Corona to Take on the Panthers


The Patriots are Undefeated and Still Ranked Third in this Week’s CIF SS Division 2 Polls

14368843_668850583262632_4112052328518367176_nHeritage heads to Corona this Friday to take on the Panthers who are ranked 11th in this week’s CIF Southern Section Division 5 Polls. The Patriots are now in the number 3 spot in Division 2 after being ignored earlier in the year.. Heritage’s strong 4-0 start against some pretty tough opponents has turned some heads and impressed the pollsters.  Last week the Patriots out muscled Redlands East Valley to a 15-7 victory.14370044_668850159929341_7795448425343920840_n

The Patriot Offensive line is the best in the Sunbelt League and also tops in Division 2. Junior quarterback Devan Freedland has now thrown 25 completions for 407 yards and 5 TDs behind them. Running back Sherod White is who the Patriots love to give the ball to move the chains.. The junior has gained 484 yards on 56 carries and has scored 3 times.

Senior Javier Luna has picked up 226 yards on 31 carries and junior Brandon Marshal has 120 yards on 12 touches. Junior James Phillips leads the receivers with 3 touchdown catches.  The Heritage defense has been tough in the 4 games and is expected to handle the any threat the Panthers can muster. Luna is also the anchor of the defense with 29 tackles and 6.5 sacks.  White and senior Jayden Dawson have 2 interceptions apiece.14224725_668849293262761_728577880878143680_n

Corona was thrashed by the Sunbelt League’s Paloma Valley 42-18. Last week. The Panthers are led by quarterback Moses Deanda. The junior has passed for 1131 yards and 10 TDs in 4 games. His favorite receivers are junior Jeremiah Boatner and senior Monte Berry. Senior running back Justin Johnson is the Panthers rushing leader with 257 yards on 41 carries and he has scored 4 TDs. He did not play against  the Wildcats last week.
