The Cowboys Jayden Daniels Throws for Six Touchdowns and 520 yards in the Loss
Cajon quarterback Jayden Daniels passed for 520 yards and connected for 6 touchdowns last night against Murrieta Valley…and lost. The Nighthawks’ high octane offense led by junior Hank Bachmeier had enough gas in the tank to pull off a 49-46 fourth quarter victory over Cajon in a wild, high scoring game Friday night at San Bernardino Valley College Stadium.
Bachmeier’s final 26 yard touchdown pass to Marquis Spyker with 7 minutes left finally put Cajon away for good. Spiker hauled in 2 touchdowns for the evening and Bachmeier threw for 19 completions and 246 yards and 4 scores.
The Cowboys struck first. Daniels began his air attack with a 34 scoring pass to senior Jeremiah Martin for a 6-0 lead. The 2 point conversion failed. Bachmeier came right back with his first TD strike to Spyker, a 21 yard beauty.
Cajon senior running back Joseph Yarber then busted loose for a huge 49 run for a touchdown for the Cowboys, The pass for the 2 point conversion failed again, and the Cowboys were up 12-7 as the first quarter came to a close.
Bachmeier then called his own number, and pranced into the end zone on a 7 yard run early in the second quarter. That put the Nighthawks up 14-12. Undaunted, Daniels answered with a 41 yard touchdown to Darren Jones for the first of 4 scoring passes of the evening.
Murrieta Valley then scored back to back touchdowns on junior running back Jordan Murry’s 4 run and a 9 yard scoring pass to senior Liam Dillon, and it was 28-18 Nighthawks.
Cajon scored one last time in the first half to close the gap to 28-26 as Jones 38 caught his second touchdown pass from Daniels with 28 second left on the clock. This time the 2 point conversion pass from Daniels to Omar Perkins succeeded.
The Nighthawks scored twice in the third quarter. Sophomore Taliq Brown grabbed a 12 yard pass from Bachmeier for a touchdown. Then, Jordan Murry took the ball in to score on a 4 yard run.
Jones hauled in his third touchdown in the third quarter. This time it was an 85 yard strike that kept the Cowboys in the game, Once again, Cajon was successful with the 2 points and the Nighthawks led 42-36.
The Cowboys scored two more times in the fourth quarter. Jones and Daniels connected for the fourth time, Perkins caught a 7 yard pass from Daniels with 3:10 left to play. It was the end of the rope for the Cowboys. Bachmeier’s 26 yard TD to Spyker held up for the Nighthawks. Cody Williams was a perfect 6 for 6 for the Nighthawks with his extra points.
Murrieta Valley improves to 2-1 and will travel to face San Clemente. The Tritons are undefeated with a 3-0 record and killed Fullerton 45-7 last night. Cajon will battle Paso Robles.
