HS Football: Murrieta Valley’s George Wilson Continues to Strengthen his Coaching Staff

The Nighthawks Seek to Challenge Perennial Southwestern League Champion Vista Murrieta in 2016

George Wilson

Murrieta Valley finished the 2015 season with a 9-3 overall record. The Nighthawks surprised Southwestern League opponents and were 4-1 in league play finishing second to Vista Murrieta. The Nighthawks went on to beat Fountain Valley in the opening round of the CIF SS Playoffs and then fell to Mission Viejo, the eventual Division Champion.

Murrieta Valley Head Coach George Wilson was pleased with last year’s effort but believes that the Nighthawks can be even better the program develops.  Helping him and the Nighthawks get there is an experienced, dedicated coaching staff.

Andre Smith & Pete Duffy

Pete Duffy is Murrieta Valley’s Offensive Coordinator. Duffy started coaching in 1995 as the Head Coach for Fremont High School. He held the same position at West Valley High before taking the helm at Rancho Verde. He will personally coach the Nighthawk Quarterbacks.

Stan Hunt

The Offensive Line is coached by Andre Smith. Terelius Wright is the new Running Backs coach.  The Slot Receivers are the responsibility of Shawn Sams and the Wide Receivers-belong to Lynn Taylor.

Murrieta Valley’s Defensive Coordinator is Stan Hunt. Hunt was the Nighthawks Defensive Coordinator way back in 2001 through 2005, before leaving to coach the defensive line and help build Corona Centennial into a powerhouse. Before returning to MVHS he was Co -Head Coach at Chaparral.13880267_1047950818627965_7878019228813308144_n

Hunt’s staff consists of Jaime Zarate who returns as the Defensive Line coach, Outside Linebacker Coach Sean Cue and Willie Newton who is responsible for the Cornerbacks. Mynor Schult has moved from Chaparral to coach the Inside Linebackers while Mike Almodovar is now out of the box and on the field coaching the safeties.

Asked about this year’s goals, Wilson simply replied “we want to compete for a championship every year”. The Nighthawks begin the season against the Sharks on August 26th at Santiago. Game time is 7PM.
