Lancers Quarterback Ryan Hilinski Passes for Five Touchdowns in Orange Lutheran’s 35-16 victory over Heritage
Heritage fell for the second time this season, this time it was a 35-16 loss to Orange Lutheran Friday night. The Patriots lost their first game of the year last week in a heart breaker 12-6 against Redlands East Valley. Heritage is now 2-2 and will face a very tough Cajon team next week.
Orange Lutheran’s air attack was just too much for the Patriots. Quarterback Ryan Hilinski, who passed for five touchdowns Friday night, found Elijah Mojarro with his first with a 4 yard touchdown pass.
Heritage made it 7-3 in the first quarter when place kicker Javier Pedraza nailed a 20 yard field goal for the Patriots. Hilinski then teamed up with Logan Loya for touchdowns on the next two Lancer possessions and Orange Lutheran was up 21-3 at the half.
Orange Lutheran scored two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter to go up 35-3. Hilinski found Loya open once again and connected for his fourth TD of the night. He then completed an 8 yard pass to Kyle Ford for his fifth touchdown and gave the Lancers a 35-3 lead.
Heritage never gave up. In the fourth quarter with 10 minutes left to go, the Patriots made it a 35-10 game when quarterback Trey Goodlow found the end zone with a with a 15 yard keeper. Goodlow would then follow up and hit Brandon Smith with a 34 yard touchdown pass with 4 minutes to go. But it was all in vane, as it turned out to be too little, too late for the Patriots.
“They have a lot of talent on the field in a lot of different areas that they’re able to bring together,” Heritage coach Kraig Broach said. “They kind of expand your defense both vertically and horizontally. I’m happy with the way the kids played today and that’s something to build on.”
Hilinski kept the Patriot defense off balance all night. His pin point passes confounded the Heritage defenders while Orange Lutheran’s running game was just good enough to move the ball effectively. Hilinski finished the game going 15 of 19 for 206 yards. The senior has 14 touchdown passes so far this season. Loya hauled in five catches for 100 yards.
It doesn’t get much Easier for Heritage. The Patriots will travel to San Bernardino to play Cajon next week. The Cowboys are undefeated at 4-0 and coming off a big 44-22 victory against Oak Hills.
Orange Lutheran is now 3-1 and will face Mission Viejo who is 5-0 next.
