Temecula Valley improves to 4-1 as they Head into Southwestern League Play
Temecula Valley’s defense and special teams shined Friday night as the Golden Bears crushed Tahquitz 41-7 in their final non-league contest. The offense, led by running back Lika Palmer started slow but finally got on track in the second quarter.
“We didn’t have the best warm up for this game and we knew that we were going to face some adversity because of it” said Temecula Valley Head Coach Rick Mey “Eventually we were able to get rolling.”
After a scoreless first quarter, quarterback Vincent Bowes drove the Golden Bears 78-yards downfield which was capped by Palmer’s 1-yard run to put Temecula up 7-0. Bowes would make it 14-0 for the Golden Bears when he hit Palmer in the end zone on the last play of the first half.
Temecula Valley’s defense continued to dominate in the second half. Golden Bears middle linebacker Cullen Muir picked off a pass in the third quarter and scored. He was followed by Nate Gardner who found a seam and returned a punt 75 yards down the sideline for a touchdown.
It was Zac Simon’s turn next as he also took a punt and raced 65 yards into the end zone. Running back Lika Palmer put the game on ice when he capped another drive with a TD for the last score.
“We cleaned up a lot defensively from last week’s game against Palom Valley” said Defensive Coordinator Mike Kostecki. “Our defense did an excellent job of executing. Last night was a total team victory. We executed and scored in all 3 phases of the game”.
