The Bronco Defense Shines Once Again as they Shutout the Sea Hawks

14224865_1066045186848927_2208157765502348526_nNew  Vista Murrieta Head Coach Dave Olson celebrated his second victory at the helm of the Broncos. Murrieta was simply dominated both sides of the ball as they crushed Redondo Union 31-0 in front of a thrilled home town crowd.

14142060_1066045200182259_7113179150724684407_nThe Broncos wasted no time this week as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. “Last week we didn’t play very well in the first half, and I wanted them to come out with an attitude tonight,” said Coach Olson. “I was happy with the way that they responded.”

And Vista Murrieta responded in Bronco fashion. The tenacious Bronco defense kept the Sea Hawks off balance and unable to move the ball effectively all night long. The Blue and Gold scored again in the second period and Olson and his team had a comfortable 21-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

The little known senior carried the ball 10 times and gained 82 yards against a tough Redondo Union defense. Castandena also caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Karson Greeley. The first was a 20 yard toss in the first quarter to put them up 7-0.

Junior Khalil Shakir made it 14-0 later in the quarter when he returned a punt 48 yards into the end zone for the score. Greeley added seven more on a quarterback keeper from 35 yards out and it was 21-0 at the half.14222372_1066045293515583_3463979244691361596_n

The punishing Bronco defense took care of the rest. The Broncos suffocated the Sea Hawks offense again in the second half while the offense scored 10 more points.

Greeley connected with Castandena again in the third quarter and the Broncos were up 28-0.  Senior Kane Page nailed a 31 yard field goal for Murrieta’s final score.

14233249_1066045203515592_6154734261955590313_nThe Broncos will face Santiago from the Big VIII next week in Corona. The Sharks are 1-1 this season and are coming off a 41-10 victory over Citrus Hill. Santiago lost their opening game to Murrieta Valley 55-31.

The Sea Hawks are now 1-1 and are headed to San Pedro to face the 1-1 Pirates.
