11 Local High School Teams are Represented the Year
The first round of the CIF Southern Section Girls Championship Basketball Playoff are set to begin on Thursday, February 15 at 7 pm. This year’s tournament has 11 local teams competing for 10 CIF Crowns.
In Division 1A, two local teams will face off in Round One. Southwestern league Champion Vista Murrieta will meet Canyon Springs. The Broncos were 23-2 and ranked 16th in the last poll.
Lake Elsinore’s Lakeside High School will battle Chaminade. The Lancers finished the regular season with a 13-13 record and placed second in the Sunbelt league.
In Division 2A, two Southwestern league teams will see action. Murrieta Valley, who finisehed second in league and a 15-11 record will travel to play Downey who is 21-5. Great Oak (11-9) will face off against Valley View (25-1).
Division 2AA will see the Sunbelt Champion Temescal Canyon playing Los Osos. The Titans dominated the Sunbelt with a perfect 10-0 record and were 21-4 overall.
Heritage will play in the Division 3AA opener. The Patriots finished 14-10 overall and were third in the Sunbelt league. They will travel to Ridgecrest to battle Burroughs.
Two local teams qualified in Division 5A. Nuview Bridge went 12-7 this season while finishing third in the South Valley league. The Knights play California School/Deaf. Calvary Murrieta was 12-11 overall and will travel to face Calvary Baptist.
South Valley Champion California Military Institute is in the Division 5AAA bracket. The Rough Riders were 16-3 and have a bye in the first round of the playoffs. They play Hueneme in round 2.
