Vista Murrieta, Murrieta Mesa, Calvary Murrieta, Rancho Christian & California Military Institute Play Tomorrow
The first round of the CIF Southern Section Girls Championship Basketball Playoff were played yesterday. Thursday, February 15. This year’s tournament had 11 local teams competing for 10 CIF Crowns.
Great Oak faced off against Valley View (26-1) and came up way short, losing 52-27. Lake Elsinore’s Lakeside High School was eliminated by Chaminade 67-41. The Lancers season ends with a 13-14 record. league.
In Division 2A, Murrieta Valley, who finished second in the Southwestern league and a 15-11 record was outplayed by Downey. The Nighthawks lost 67-26.
Division 2AA saw Sunbelt Champion Temescal Canyon lost to Los Osos 75-34. The Titans dominated the Sunbelt with a perfect 10-0 record and were 21-5 overall.
In Division 3A Murrieta Mesa is looking to go all the way. The Rams finished 4th in the Southwestern league. They slipped past Granite Hills 33-31 in the opener. The Rams face Beverly Hills tomorrow.
Two local teams played in the Division 5A Openers. Nuview Bridge went 12-7 this season while finishing third in the South Valley league. The Knights fell to California School/Deaf 42-35. Calvary Murrieta won and will advance to round two. The Warriors beat Calvary Baptist 36-21 and will face Samueli Academy next.
South Valley Champion California Military Institute is in the Division 5AAA bracket. The Rough Riders were 16-3 and had a bye in the first round of the playoffs. They play Hueneme in tomorrow in round 2.
