HS Girls Basketball: Great Oak Back in Track after Beating Temecula Valley 48-22

The Wolfpack faces the Southwestern league Leading Vista Murrieta Broncos on Friday

Great Oak won it’s first Southwestern league basketball game Tuesday night as the Wolfpack devoured the Golden Bears 48-22 in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

Great Oak had lost it’s first 2 league games to Murieta Valley and Murrieta Mesa and the defending Southwestern league Co-Champions were glad to get the win. “It felt good to get our first league win” said Wolfpack Coach Shannon Maurice. “Hopefully this will get us going in the right direction”.

Great Oak’s defense shined as they held Temecula Valley to just 3 points in the period, 10 in the second, 5 in the third and 4 in the final period. Two freshman led the Golden Bears. Dianna Gerken scored 6 points and Madison Packwood added 4 against the swarming Great Oak defense. Senior Isabella Pena and sophomore Emily Gonzalez added 3 points each for Temecula.

Ashley Waltz was the scoring leader for Great Oak with 11 points. Brooke Padgett was next with 10 points and Victoria Farris had 9 points. Kevwe Anibogu added 7 more and Macy Higgins ended up with 4 points.

In other Southwestern League action Megan Ormiston scored 23 points for the Nighthawks as Murrieta Valley defeated Chaparral 58-39. Last year’s Co-Champion Vista Murrieta’s strong 4th period finished pulled the Broncos past Murrieta Mesa 64-46.
