HS Girls Basketball: Great Oak Falls to Roosevelt 45-44 and Out of the Playoffs

The Game Slips Away with just Seconds Left on the Clock

Great Oak lost to Roosevelt 45-44 in Round 2 of the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA Championship Playoffs. The Wolfpack fought Roosevelt tough, trading baskets all game long. They pulled within a single point with just seconds left on the clock only… to let the season slip away.

“They battled so hard” said Great Oak Coach Shannon Maurice. “It’s hard when you lose a game like that”.

Indeed, the Wolfpack was a Cinderella team of sorts this season. The Wolfpack beat perennial Southwestern League Champions Vista Murrieta this season to snatch a piece of the league Championship. The team, and the school had great expectations for the playoffs.

Victoria Farris led the Wolfpack attack with 15 points. Tatiana Shaw and Amanda Constant scored 8 apiece and Ashley Waltz added 7 more. Brooke Padgett scored 4 four points and Raven Whitener-Patterson added 2 more for Great Oak.

Roosevelt’s Michelle Nwufo was the scoring leader for the Mustangs with 14 points. Joelle Jimenez added 10 more and freshman Ugonne Onyiah added 8 more and grabbed the game ending rebound.

Danelle Brown also had 7 points for the Mustangs. Bianca Nelson, Nauvie Burries and Bailee Robinson each added 2 points apiece to the scoreboard.

Roosevelt will be home Wednesday night to face Oaks Christian in the next round of the CIF SS Division 1AA Championship Playoffs. The Lions defeated Orange Lutheran 45-35 last night.
