HS Girls Basketball: Great Oak Finishes Strong to Hold Off Walnut 56-50



Seniors Tianna Shaw and Ariel Rivera Lead the Wolfpack Past the Mustangs

15577812_10209732180733103_1806209872_nGreat Oak held off a tough and pesky  Mustang team that refused to give in… even after a disastrous second period when the Wolfpack jumped out to a 30-23 lead. Walnut came back to outscore Great Oak 13-8 to make it 38-36 to set up the dramatic final period.

Senior Tianna Shaw scored 7 of her 17 points and the Wolfpack rallied to hold off the Mustang comeback with a18-14 effort to win 56-50 in their second round game of the Roosevelt Tournament. Great Oak crushed Paloma Valley 58-28 in the opening round.


15591680_10209732186053236_322855781_nSenior Ariel Rivera scored 13 points, junior Brooke Padgett 9 and senior Amanda Constant 6 more against Walnut. Sophomores Ashley Waltz and Victoria Farris each scored 4 points and junior Kevwe Anibagu added a basket for the Wolfpack.

Walnut Senior Jenna Pitpitt led all scores with 21 points. Sophomore Kaitlin Day added 8 while juniors Yasmine Dabbous and Reanna Mayo scored 7 points each for the Mustangs.15494165_10209732189173314_220273575_n

Great Oak’s record is now 5-1 this season. Their only loss was against Valley View in the Championship game of the West Valley Tournament.

The Wolfpack will play Roosevelt tomorrow. Walnut is now 6-2 and will face Bishop Amat in the next round of tournament play.
