HS Girls Basketball: Great Oak Rolls Over Murrieta Mesa 57-37

Vista Murrieta Crushes Chaparral 59-18 & Temecula Valley Edges Murrieta Valley 39-31 in other Southwestern League Games

Great Oak defeated Southwestern league rival Murrieta Mesa 57-37 Friday night. Victoria Farris scored 16 points and Ashley Waltz added 15 to lead the Wolfpack past the Rams.

The game started on a different note. The Rams, behind their top scorer and play maker Maitland Kingsley, jumped out to a 17-11 lead. Kingsley scored 8 points in the opening frame before disaster struck for Mesa.

With the score15-8 Kingsley just nailed her second 3-pointer from the top of the key. The junior scoring machine rolled her ankle and was rushed to Urgent Care. It didn’t take long for the Wolfpack to adjust and take advantage of the situation.

Great Oak dominated the rest of the game. The Wolfpack outscored the Rams 18-4 in the second period, 10-6 in the third and 18-10 in the final frame. Final score, Wolfpack 57, Rams 37. It was Great Oak’s fifth straight win.

Great Oak was led by Victoria Farris’s 16 and Ashley Waltz’s 15 points. Savannah Potter was also in double figures with 10 points. Michelle Stanfill added 9 points, Sami Bollinger 5 and Maddie Gonzales had 2 points.

Maitland Kingsley left the game in the first quarter with 8 points.

Kayli Klemp led the Rams with 9 points, nailing three 3-pointers. Kaylee Van Betuw and Rayven Crook scored 5 points each while Emily Gonzales and Sydney Ormiston added 4 points apiece. Valerie Arias sunk a free throw for the Rams.

In other Southwestern league action, Vista Murrieta led by Natalia Willis’ 17 and Jessica Stoll’s 12 point effort, crushed Chaparral 59-18. Temecula Valley defeated Murrieta Valley 39-31.

Great Oak will face Murrieta Valley on Monday as Southwestern league play continues. Vista Murrieta plays Temecula Valley and Murrieta Mesa take on Chaparral.
