HS Girls Basketball: Murrieta Mesa Stuns Great Oak and Slips Past the Wolfpack 39-37

Emilee Stallo Came up Very Big in the Second Half for the Rams

Murrieta Mesa stunned the Southwestern league’s defending Co-Champion Wolfpack with a heart stopping 39-37 victory Friday night.

The finish was kind of dramatic” said Murrieta Mesa Coach Kyle Rouse. “They had 3 possessions in a row to tie or win because of a turnover on our end… and we were able to get 3 straight stops to win. We actually stole the ball with .5 left to end it”.

Emilee Stallo came up very big in the second half for the Rams. Stallo ended up scoring 13 points. Deyjanae Williams also scored 13 points, Alexus Williams added 5 and Valerie Arias 4 more. Kayli Klemp and Jasonnia Burleson scored 2 points each.

Great Oak’s Ashley Waltz was the leading scorer for the Wolfpack. Maddie Gonzales added 8 points, Kevwe Anigbogu 7 and Brooke Padgett 5 more. Victoria Farris also had 2 points.

It was not a pretty game by any means but sometime Southwestern league games are that way” said Rouse. “It’s always tough coaching against Coach Maurice, he’s a great coach and has his team very prepared. We just were able to shut them down on offense and somehow battled enough to control the boards against their two “bigs”. Fun times”.

It was the second win against them in school history… but the first time ever beating them in their gym”. Murrieta Mesa is 11-4, 2-0 in league. Great Oak is 0-2 in league.

In other Southwestern league action Vista Murrieta beat Chaparral 64-34. The Broncos jumped out to a 35-10 lead at halftime and never looked back.

Freshman, Lexi Mead nailed three 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead the Broncos. Nakela Smith added 11 and Gaby Stoll was also in double figures with 10 points. Zia Rapada and Savannah Villanueva each scored 13 points for Chaparral.
