HS Girls Basketball: Murrieta Takes Second in the 2017 Ramona HS Winter Classic

The Rams Fall to San Jacinto 65 – 49 in the Tournament Final

The Murrieta Mesa Girls Basketball team is off to spectacular start in the new season. The Rams took second place in the 2017 Ramona High School Winter Classic that ended yesterday.

Murrieta Mesa had cruised through their first three games of the tournament. They beat Rubidoux 75–37 in the opener and put Rim of the World away 57–28 in the next game. They defeated Jurupa Valley 51–43 to qualify for the finals.

We had a great tournament and started really coming together and had three good wins to get to the finals’ said Murrieta Mesa Coach Kyle Rouse. “The game tonight was closer than it looks on the board. Free throws down the stretch hurt us”

We were tied at half and then down six going into the fourth. We struggled on the boards and with their pressure but I really like how our team battles so far this season” added Rouse. “We’re young so we make some inexperienced mistakes however they have heart and a never quit attitude”.

San Jacinto was led by freshman phenom Sydney Woodley who scored 31 points. Senior Iasia Bailey added15 points and junior Tehya Marcus had 13 more.

Junior Deyjanae Deyjanae was the leading scorer for Murrieta Mesa with 17 points. He sister Alexus added 11 more for the Rams. Deyjanae Williams and freshman Keslyn Henson were selected to the All tournament Team.

The Rams are now 7-3 this season. “Tonight was definitely a solid week of games” said Rouse.”Coming into tonight we were on a 5 game win streak, including a solid win over Garden Grove. We play Corona next on Tuesday”.
