HS Girls Basketball: Temecula Valley Wins the “Battle of the Block” over Linfield Christian 54-36

The Lions’ Sydney Moran Led all Scorers with 25 Points in the Losing Effort

The Golden Bears won their home opener Tuesday, as they defeated neighboring Linfield Christian 54-36. The game had been dubbed the “Battle of the Block” because of the close proximity of the 2 schools.

Temecula Valley improved to 4-1 with the victory. Linfield Christian falls to 1-4. The good news for the Lions is that junior point guard Sydney Moran was red hot. She led all scorers with 27 points while sinking four 3-pointers.

Sophomore Audree Cook was held to 8 points but led the team in rebounds and assists. Junior Mariah Pena scored 1 point.

The Golden Bears youth movement toppled the Lions. Sophomore Emily Gonzalez led Temecula with 18 points. Freshman Madison Packwood scored 17 more while juniors Anastasia Navarro and Emma Vollmer put 8 each through the hoop. Junior Avriell Ciriani also scored 6 points for the Golden Bears.

I am so proud of our girls. We have really been working hard in the preseason and it is paying off said Temecula Valley Coach Felicia Simon earlier. “We actually started changing the culture of our program this past summer. We still have a long way to go to be ready for our competitive league.

The Golden Bears will be competing in the Grace Brethren Classic Tournament starting today. They will face host Grace Brethren of Simi Valley at 6pm.

Linfield Christian will try to turn things around on Thursday. The Lions have an away non-conference game against Sherman Indian at 7pm.
