The Golden Bears Crush Tahquitz 66-41 in the Finals to Take Home this Year’s Crown
The Temecula Valley Girls Basketball team gave Coach Andrew Wohlgemuth an early Christmas present Tuesday. The Golden Bears beat Tahquitz 66-41 in the final game of the 2015 Bettie Smith Memorial Classic Championship to claim this year’s title.
The Bears started the tournament with a huge 54-15 win over Palm Desert, then rolled past Temescal Canyon 51-42. They destroyed Hemet 52-33 in the semifinal game. Temecula Valley outscored Tahquitz in every frame and took a 35-23 lead into the locker room after a huge 21-11 second period. They never looked back.
Senior Tehya Burroughs led the Golden Bears with 20 points and 5 assists against the Titans. Point guard Danielle Weinmann was a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe as the junior scored 16 points and hauled in 7 rebounds and had 3 steals.
Senior Avery Weaver added 10 points while freshmen Emma Vollmer and Anastasia Navarro scored 7 and 5 points respectively. Senior Reana Miyahira had 4 deflections, 3 assists and caused 3 takeovers.
Temescal Canyon took third place in the tournament with a 58-30 victory over Murrieta Mesa.
Temecula Valley improves to 10-3 overall this season with losses to Upland, JW North and Redlands East Valley and may be the team to beat in the tough Southwestern League.
