The 2019 CIF Southern Section Girls Basketball Playoff Championship brackets were released Sunday at noon. Eleven talented local teams have qualified to compete in this year’s tournament.
Congratulations to Vista Murrieta, Lakeside, Great Oak, Chaparral, Murrieta Mesa, Paloma Valley, Santa Rosa Academy, Nuview Bridge, Calvary Murrieta, Linfield Christian and Rancho Christian. Round one action starts on Thursday, February 7th.
In Division 1, Vista Murrieta will host Esperanza in the opening round. The Broncos were crowned Southwestern league Champions for the seventh consecutive year and have a record of 12-12. The Aztecs finished second in the Crestview league and were 21-7 overall.
Lakeside has a BYE in the first round of Division 2A play. The Lancers will play the winner of Bonita and Culver City on Saturday, February 9th . Lakeside was the undefeated Champions of the Ivy league this season and are 22-3.
Southwestern league runner up Great Oak will start the Division 2AA tournament against Orange Lutheran. The Wolfpack will be home for the opener and are 19-7 this season. The Lancers, who play in the tough Trinity league, are 19-9.
Chaparral will travel to Twentynine Palms to play the Wildcats in their Division 3AA game. The Pumas finished 5-5 in Southwestern league play. They are 17-11 overall. The Wildcats are 20-8.
Murrieta Mesa will be home for their Division 3AA game. The Rams will host Hemet, the third place team in the Mountain Pass league. Mesa is 13-15 this season, and the Bulldogs are 21-8.
Three South Valley league teams qualified in the Division 5A playoffs. League Champion Nuview Bridge will play the winner of Victor Valley and Christian Agape Wildcard game. The Knights are 19-5.
Second place finisher Calvary Murrieta is home against Lucerne Valley. The Warriors bring a 12-12 record to the show while the Mustangs are 14-12.
Santa Rosa Academy will play Lutheran in their opening match. The Rangers finished third in the South Valley and are 9-8.
Linfield Christian drew a Bye in the first round of the tournament. The Lions will face the winner of the Academy Career and Hesperia Christian game. Linfield’s record is 20-3.
Rancho Christian will open the playoffs at home against San Bernardino. The Eagles are 17-3 and 8-1 in league. The Cardinals are 14-13.
