HS Girls Basketball: Vista Murrieta Can’t Hold On as Canyon Comes Back to Win 53-45

The Broncos are Elimated from the CIF Southern Section Divison 1AA Championship Tournament

Vista Murrieta could not hold on to a 27-23 halftime lead as the Cowboys corralled the Broncos stampede to win 53-45 in front of a boisterous home town crowd. The Broncos were eliminated from the 2017 CIF Southern section Division 1AA Championship Playoffs.




The Broncos jumped out to a 11-8 lead in the first period, and increased the lead to 27-23 by halftime. The Cowboys came back in a fury, outscoring the Broncos 14-7 in the third period and took the lead 37-34.

The Cowboys defense stiffened and Vista Murrieta’s offense had no answer as the Broncos fell 53-45. Canyon out-rebounded the Broncos 43-23.

Keilanei Cooper was the Broncos scoring leader with 15 points. Freshman Maitland Kingsley added 11 more and Gabby Stoll 9 points. Dani Weinmann ended up with 8 points and Serena Jimerson 2.



Rachel Bowers led the Cowboys with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Talia Taufaasau scored 13 more while Daisy Cardenas and Krystal Amato put 7 points on the board apiece. Gabriella Sanchez scored 5 points and hauled in 12 rebounds for the Cowboys,

Canyon Crest advances to face Sonora in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday night. The Raiders beat Lynwood 58-50 last night.
