HS Girls Basketball: Vista Murrieta Defeats Great Oak 53-34

The Broncos Meet the Nighthawks Tuesday in the Battle for First Place

Vista Murrieta poured it on in the final period of Friday’s Southwestern league contest against Great Oak to run away with a 53-34 victory. The Broncos are tied for first place with Murrieta Valley.

Vista Murrieta led 37-31 after three periods when disaster struck the Wolfpack. The Broncos out-scored Great Oak 16-3 in that decisive quarter to pull away and finalize the 53-34 win.

Freshman Lexi Mead led the Broncos, scoring 15 points against the pack. Gabby Stoll added 12 point and Imari Cooley scored 10 points. Maitland Kingsley would score 7 points, Serena Jimerson 4, Nakela Smith 3 and Natalia Willis 2 points for Vista Murrieta.

Great Oak’s Brooke Padgett was the Wolfpack scoring leader with 8 points. Kevwe Anigbogu and Ashley Waltz each scored 7, Victoria Farris 5 and Raven Whitener-Patterson 3 for the Wolfpack

In other Southwestern league action, Murrieta Valley’Megan Ormiston scored 16 while Jillian Jinkins and Paris Pettitt added 15 each to down Murrieta Mesa 65-35. Jaazar Ridges also scored 11 for the Nighthawks. Alexis Williams and Kayli Klemp scored 8 points for the Rams while Emilee Stallo added 7 more.

Chaparral won its first league game behind an 18 point effort by sophomore Zia Rapada over Temecula Valley 59-52. Sophomore Emily Gonzalez scored 20 points or the Golden Bear’s.
