The Broncos Beat Last Year’ Co-Champion Great Oak 53-42 as they Prepare for the CIF Playoffs
Vista Murrieta extended it’s domination of Girls Basketball in the Southwestern league with a 53-42 victory over Great Oak and finish with a perfect 10-0 season. The Broncos have won the league Championship for the past six seasons and have been the team to beat since 2012. Great Oak finished in third place.
Great Oak jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first period but couldn’t hold on to the lead. The Broncos outscored the Wolfpack 15-6 in the second period to take a 20-16 lead into the locker room at the half.
Vista Murrieta tacked on another 33 points while limiting Great Oak to 26 in the second half to clinch the victory and a perfect Southwestern league season.
Keira Barton, Imari Cooley and Maitland Kingsley each scored 6 points for the Broncos while Sarah Rich put 3 through the hoop.
Great Oak’s Brooke Padgett led all scorers with 16 points. Ashley Waltz scored 8 points, Michelle Stanfill 6 and Victoria Farris 5 more for the Wolfpack.
In other Southwestern league action, Megan Ormiston scored 18 points to lead Murrieta Valley over Murrieta Mesa 49-37. The Nighthawks finished in second place. Chaparral also beat Temecula Valley 49-45.
Both teams are looking forward to the CIF Southern Section Championship Playoffs. Playoff brackets will be announce Sunday, Feb 11 at 1:00 pm.
