HS Girls Basketball: Vista Murrieta Places Second in the Husky Invitational Tournament


The Broncos are 3-1 as they Enter Today’s Chino Hills High School Tournament against JSerra

dsc_0285The Vista Murrieta Girls Basketball season is underway and the Broncos start the season with a second place finish in the Husky Invitational Tournament at Fairmont Prep last week. Vista Murrieta beat South 55-36 in the opener, then crushed Gahr 59-31 in the second round.




The Broncos advanced to the finals with a 49-29 victory over Yosemite before suffering their first loss of the season against Fairmont Prep.

The Huskies jumped out to a 19-11 lead in the first period and never relented. The Broncos battled back but trailed 29-18 at the half. Vista Murrieta outscored Fairmont Prep 13-10in the third period only to have the door slammed shut in the fourth.

dsc_0194Seniors Dani Weinmann, Keilanei Cooper and junior Keiara Barton led the Broncos with 12, 11 and 10 points in the Final game against the Huskies. Weinmann also led Vista Murrieta with 11 rebounds and 4 assists.

Juniors Annaliyah Del rio, Serena Jimerson, freshmen Maitland Kingsley and Cecilia Abella each scored 2-points in the loss.dsc_0219



Weinmann leads the Broncos with 57 points in the first 4 games of the season. Cooper has scored 45 points in just 3 games. Jimerson leads the team with 12 steals.

Vista Murrieta travels today to face JSerra in the opening round of the Chino Hills Tournament.
