HS Girls Basketball: Vista Murrieta Powering Past Southwestern League Opponents

The Broncos Thrashed Chaparral 64-18 last week and will Face Great Oak Wednesday

Is there anyone in the Southwestern league who can stop Vista Murrieta this season. Maybe just slow them down a bit. Coach Kurt Ruth’s Broncos are 10-3 overall and 2-0 in league play so far this season.

Vista Murrieta blew past Murrieta Valley in the league opener 56-27 last Tuesday. The Broncos then crushed Chaparral 64-18 Thursday. They have outscored their SWL opponents 110-45 in two games.

They stomped Mater Dei 73-51 Monday night in non-league play.

The Broncos outscored the Pumas 40-9 in the first half. It only go worse for Chaparral after that. The pesky and aggressive Vista Murrieta defense tormented the Pumas all night. Zia Rapada led the Pumas with 10 hard earned points. Savanna Villanueva added 5 more,Julia Hernandez 2 and Romy Laredo dropped one in from the charity stripe.

Vista Murrieta’s Keilanii Cooper led the Broncos with 19 points and also had 5 steals. Dani Weinmann was next with 16 points and Gabby Stoll scored 11,led the team with 10 rebounds and 5 steals. Maitland Kingsley added 6 points, Serena Jimerson 4, Nakela Smith 3, Keiara Barton 2 and Natalia Willis each scored 2 points. Noelani Bernardo made a free throw for the Broncos.

Cooper scored a season-high 28 points as the Broncos beat the Monarchs at the Martin Luther King Showcase Monday night at Horizon Christian, Weinmann added 17, Stoll 13, as Barton and Kingsley scored 5 points apiece.

The Broncos will face Great Oak at home Wednesday.
