HS Girls Basketball: Vista Murrieta Stays Red Hot…Beats Cathedral Catholic 51-42

Imari Cooley Paces the Broncos with 14 Points and 9 Rebounds

Vista Murrieta made it 6 victories in a row to begin the 2017 Season. The defending Southwesten League Champions looked sharp as they defeated San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic 51-42 yesterday in the second game of the Matador Classic Tournament.

The Broncos and Dons were tied at 12 in the first period. Vista Murrieta shut down the Dons in the second period and took a 20-16 lead at the half. The Broncos held on to outscore Cathedral Catholic 31-26 in the second half to pull away with the victory.

Senior Imari Cooley led the Broncos with 14 Points. She also grabbed 9 Rebounds. Serena Jimerson added 9 points and Nakela Smith and Sarah Rich scored 8 points each. Freshman Lexi Mead had 6 rebounds and scored 4 points.

Vista Murrieta continues with the Matador Classic Tournament today. The Broncos will be in Chula Vista to face Mater Dei Catholic at 7pm. The Crusaders are 4-2 and edged Lincoln 45-41 in yesterday’s tournament opener.
