The Broncos Suffer First Loss of the Season to Mount Miguel 51-47
Vista Murrieta placed second in the Matador Classic in San Diego last night. The red hot Broncos had a 8 game winning streak snapped by Mount Miguel who edged Vista Murrieta 51-47.
“Although we are disappointed in the loss, it has been a good start to the season for us overall” said Broncos Coach Kurt Ruth. “Playing five competitive games in a six day span, and nine games in twelve days, has definitely been a challenge for our team”
“ We have learned a lot about ourselves the last two weeks and what we need to work on to improve as a unit. We are extremely proud of our girls and the physical and mental toughness they have shown so far this season added the coach.”
Gabby Stoll led the Broncos attack. The senior scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the Matadors. Freshman Lexi Mead continued to shine, dropping in 5 free throws and ending up with 9 points.
Senior Imari Cooley dropped in 8 points while snagging 10 rebounds. Serena Jimerson added 6 points and Maitland Kingsley 5.
The Broncos almost pulled the game out of the bag. Down by 8 going into the 4th quarter, they battled back and made it a one-possession game. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t get over the hump this time and lost their first game of the season.
The Broncos will have some time to rest and recuperate for a few days. They will be home for a non-conference game against Rosary Academy of Fullerton on Wednesday, December 13 at 7pm.
