HS Girls Volleyball: Chaparral Falls to Mira Costa in Round 2 of the 2016 CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship Playoffs


The Pumas Season Ends with a 4-set 25-20 26-24, 22–25, 25-18 Loss

14908310_1503674166326576_2513876756407688008_nChaparral’s 2016 season ended Thursday night as Mira Costa defeated the Pumas in 4 sets in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship Playoffs. The feisty Pumas put up a gallant battle, but just didn’t have quite enough to advance to the quarter-final round.14937177_1503671546326838_2270742099496115438_n

Tonight we played beautiful volleyball as a team” said Chaparral Coach Dana Burkholder. “We did things tonight and this week that we worked on all season and to put that on the court in a big setting is a testament to the girls character and work ethic”.

14956569_1503670832993576_477975819581351905_nThe Pumas put up quite a fight, losing 25-20 26-24, 22–25, 25-18. Junior Kaili Downs led the way with 14 kills and4 blocks. Senior Jessica Haynie added 14 kills, and sophomore Morgan Johnson had 13 kills and 13 digs.

Junior Kenzie Guimont had 7 kills and 6 blocks, while senior Nicole Jones came up with 4 kills and blocled 2 shots. Junior setter Hailey Carter had 50 assists and 13 digs. Senior Karli Koza led the team with 37 digs and fellow senior Taylor Dordoni ended the game with 12 digs.

Mira Coaasta advances to the quarterfinal round to face Edison Saturday.
