HS Girls Water Polo: Murrieta Valley Falls in the Opening Round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championship Playoffs

The Nighthawk’s Season Comes to an End at Home at the Hands of Santa Barbara

Murrieta Valley was home to face Santa Barbara in the opening match of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championship Playoffs Friday. The Nighthawks finished the season with a 12-13 record overall and won their 14th consecutive Southwestern league title this year.

Santa Barbara scored 2 goals in the first period to take a 2-1 lead. The Dons would score 2 more goals in each of the next 3 periods. The Nighthawk’s manged to score 2 more times, once in the second and another in the third.

Murrieta would lose the match 8-3.

Senior Taylor Hensley, sophomore Maryn Dempsey and freshman Sophia Sollie scored the goals for Murrieta Valley. Tyanna Schneider, another freshman was in goal for the Nighthawks. 

Murrieta Valley has won 6 CIF Southern Section Championships and considered a water polo powerhouse in Southern California. This year’s team was considered a rebuilding year with many young and inexperienced players and many underclassmen filling key slots.

Abigail Hendrix and Georgia Ransom scored three goals each for Santa Barbara. Jordan Duggan and Anna Hepp scored a goal apiece. Santa Barbara is ranked fourth in the Division in the last CIF SS Polls.
