Vista Murrieta faced off against Riverside Poly Monday in a non-league match against two of the best teams in the latest CIF Southern Section Division 2 polls. The Bears came in ranked in second and the Broncos clawed their way back o the eleventh spot.
The Broncos jumped out to an early lead as Amira Van Buren scored the first goal of the game. The Bears answered with Rachel McCarty’s goal to tie it all up. Isabella Rack put Vista Murrieta ahead with 2 goals to make it 3-1 but McCarty scored her second and third goals and it was all tied up again.
Poly’s Dailynn Santoro scored the go ahead point at the end of the period and the Bears seized control of the game.
The Bears scored 5 goals in the second period and held Vista Murrieta to a single score to take a 9-4 lead at the half. The Broncos would outscore Riverside Poly 5-4 in the second half, but it was too little, too late for Murrieta. The Broncos played hard but the Bears had too much depth on the roster.
Once again it was the Vista Murrieta “Trifacta” that did all the scoring for the Broncos. Isabella Rack scored 4 goals, Katy Peterson 3 and Amira Van Buren 3 more. Van Buren and Rack also had 3 steals and 3 blocks apiece. Jacelyn Geddes ended up with 10 saves for the Broncos.
Riverside Poly was led by Sara Dempsey and Dailynn Santoro who scored 4 goals apiece. Rachel McCarty put two into the net and Airiam Grishom, Samantha Santana and Juli Ann Hilovsky scored a goal each. Grace Halliday had nine saves for Poly.
The Broncos will host to the Finals of the Southwestern League’s Carousel Tournament on Thursday,
