HS Golf: Murrieta Valley Wins the 2017 Riverside Cup Championship

Great Oak Takes Third Place, Temecula Valley Finishes in the 10th Spot

Murrieta Valley captured first place at the Riverside Cup Championship held at Canyon Crest Country club Monday. The Nighthawks edged second place Walnut in a tense battle for the Cup, winning by a single point, 385 to 386.

Harrison Kingsley’s round of 73 led the Nighthawks attack. Kingsley finished fourth place in Individual rankigs. Case Casaga hit a 76, Edward Yi 77, Blake Petchel 79 and Edward Quang an 80 for MVHS. Michael McMillan also shot an 81 for Murrieta.

“I’m very pleased with our effort in extremely tough conditions’ said Murrieta Valley Coach Greg Ireland.. “Great leadership from Harrison, Cade, and Edward. The Riverside Invitational is a real test against outstanding teams. Appreciate the win, but we have a long way to go. We must improve to have any impact in the SWL or the CIF playoffs”.

Chino Hill’s Darren Linnwas the Individual Champion with a score of 69. Walnut took the next two spots with Alrik Pan, who also shot a 69 and Tyler Nguyen, who’s score o 71 was good for third place.

Great Oak, led by Caleb Bradley, finished in third place. His round of 75 was fitth in Individual rankings. Ryan McCoy hit a 76, Ty Ronhovdee and Sean Breen 79’s and Parker Whitehead an 82. Zied Naber shot an 84 for the Wolfpack.

Temecula Valley came in 10th place of the 17 teams competing. The Golden Bears were led by Griffin Ferguson’s round of 78. Devin Ferguson and Austin Parr both shot 82s, Michael Swyden 93, Justin Loez a 95 and Wilson Moyer 97.

Vista Murieta finished the tournament with a team score of 445. Austen Lopez led the Broncos with around of 78. Nick Oaks hit a 85 while Johnny Linarez and Christian Nettles both had a 92. Kobe Freeman shot 98 . 

Linfield Christian finished the Tournament with a team score of 454. The Lions’ Max Moore led Linfield with an 81. Alex Honeycutt hit a 84, Linrui Chen 86, Brandon L Heureux 87 and Jensen Poier a 128.
