HS Softball: Great Oak Scores Early and Often as they Defeat Murrieta Valley 13-3

Serena Salvey, Mata Faapito, Kayla Edward & Katy Hurley Hit Home Runs for the Wolfpack

Great Oak avenged Tuesday’s stunning 7-2 loss to Murrieta Valley Thursday. The Wolfpack jumped all over Nighthawk pitching and won the game 13-3 in just 5 innings. The Pack is still in second place and trail Murrieta Mesa by a game.

Great Oak poured on the power Thursday. The Wolfpack smashed four home runs on the day. Serena Salvey and Mata Faapito each homered in the first inning to give the Pack a 2-0 lead. Kayla Edwards hit a four bagger in the second inning as Great Oak went up 8-0. Katy Hurley had a homer in the five run third inning.

Quincee Lilio doubled, singlled and drove in 2 runs. Sara Kinch also had a RBI for the Wolfpack.

Paulina Johnson got the win for Great Oak. She allowed five hits and three runs over three and a third innings. Faapito threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen and recorded the last five outs to earn the save for the Wolfpack.

Jennelle Muñoz was saddled with the loss for Murrieta Valley. She gave up five runs on six hits over two innings, walking one. Relief pitcher Abby Strom fared even worse, surrendering 8 runs on 7 hits.

Murrieta Valley scored three runs in the fourth inning. Alexis Buchanan drove in two runs and McKenna Tjaden the other.

In other Southwestern league action, Murrieta Mesa defeated Chaparral 12-2 and Vista Murrieta edged past Temecula Valley 9-6.
