The Lions Beat Western Christian 14-0 on Senior Day
On Linfield Christian’s Senior Day Thursday, the Lady Lions honored graduating seniors outfielder Nayan Jenkins, second baseman JaeCe Simon , and pitcher Alex Perez.
Alex Perez then went out and pitched a two-hit shutout against Western Christian in a 14-0 run-rule Ambassador League win. Perez struck out 10. Only two balls were hit out of the infield, a fly ball out to right and a fly ball single to short left.
Linfield shortstop Kiki McGrath drove in 5 runs going 2 for 3 with a double. Catcher Payton Howie drove in 3 runs, going 2 for 3 with a double.

Sarah Newman’s ground ball single down the left field line then scored Howie from second; an errant throw from left field allowed Artiga to score with Newman going to second. Newman moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Natalie Santillan’s fly ball double to right field.
Linfield batted around in the third inning, scoring 4 more. With two outs, Nayana Jenkins walked and stole second base. Simon reached on her second infield hit, with Jenkins moving to third. In the fourth inning, Linfield sent eight players to the plate. Newman led off with a line drive double to deep center field. One out later Sherry He, replacing Jenkins, was hit by pitch. Simon and Jenna Perez walked, bringing in Newman and leaving the bass loaded. McGrath’s line drive double to the left field corner then cleared the bases to end the scoring.
Western had scoring threats in the third and fourth innings. In the third inning with one out, walks to Hope Weber (one of three Weber sisters on the team) and Kepa Vinyard put runners at first and second. Alex Perez struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Western’s only two hits came in the fourth inning. Melanie Lienberger led off with a bad hop infield single. Sydney Kerr followed with a fly ball single to short left field with Lienberger moving to second. After a strike out, Jackie Norberg hit into a fielder’s choice to Linfield second baseman Simon who made the unassisted putout at second, with Lienberger moving to third. Grace Weber was then hit by pitch to load the bases. Alex Perez then struck out Hope Weber to preserve the shutout.
