HS Softball: Murrieta Mesa Defeats Santiago 5-1 in Round 1 of the 2018 CIF SS Championship Playoffs

Autumn Pease Strikes Out 13 Sharks & Camille Rivera Hits a Home Run as the Rams Cruise to Victory

Murrieta Mesa won it’s opening round playoff game in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championships Thursday. The Rams beat Santiago with a convincing 5-1 victory and will advance to Round 2 to face Chino Hills.

Rams ace Autumn Pease threw six shut out innings before giving up the Sharks on run in the seventh. The senior gave up six hits over the seven innings and struck out 13 batters.

The Rams scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Murrieta scored twice in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Senior Camille Rivera hit a home run in the fifth inning and drove in 2 runs.

Junior Jada Cody doubled and had 2 RBIs and Kelci Hill drove in 1 in the first inning. The junior had 2 hits in the game.

Sophomore Presligh Pilon doubled and scored and senior Amanda Kubski also scored a run for Murrieta. Freshman Bella Flexen also had a double against the Sharks.

Kayla Hooks took the loss for Santiago. The senior allowed four hits and three runs over four innings while striking out two and walking one.

The Rams will now advance to round 2 of the CIF Southern Section Championships. They will face Chino Hills, the undefeated Champions of the Baseline league. The Huskies were 28-4 overall and beat Charter Oak 6-0 in their round 1 match.
