HS Softball: Murrieta Mesa Falls 6-5 to Chino Hills in the First Round of the Michelle Carew Classic


Vista Murrieta, Great Oak & Murrieta Valley are also Beaten in their First Round Matches

Murrieta Mesa jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning of their First Round game against Chino Hills in the 2018 Michelle Carew Classic this afternoon. Unfortunately the Rams bats went quiet for the remainder of the game.

Chino Hills scored one in the fourth, 3 more in the fifth and 2 in the sixth inning to eek out a 6-5 victory over Murrieta Mesa. Rams ace Autumn Pease was pitching a shut out for three innings. She then gave up 3 home runs to freshman Mykenzie Hanna, Junior Brooke Johnson and senior Reese Vargas.

Pease also gave up run scoring singles to seniors Camryn Lyman and Alyessa Martinez. The senior hurler gave up 6 runs on 9 hits. Freshman Kendall Mangel got the win for the Huskies. She went all 7 innings scattered 10 hits and gave up 5 runs.

Freshman Kalyn Hill drove in two runs for Murrieta Mesa in the a action packed third inning. Sophomore Presligh Pilon, and seniors Breena Anderson and Autumn Pease also had an RBI each. 

Three other Southwestern league teams also lost in the First Round Play. Pacifica took 8 innings to beat Great Oak 4-3 while Vista Murrieta fell 5- 3 to Huntington Beach. Orange Lutheran crushed Murrieta Valley 12-2 in their opener.

Second Round games are scheduled for Thursday.
