Murrieta Mesa jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning Tuesday afternoon and it looked as if the Rams would cruise to an easy victory over Chaparral. The Pumas had other plans. Chaparral came back and scored 5 runs to tie it all up in the third inning.
Murrieta Mesa quickly took the lead back, scoring 2 runs in each of the next three innings. Chaparral would score another run in the sixth and then 3 more in the seventh to narrow the score to 11-9.
Rams ace Autumn Pease picked up her 13th win of the season for Murrieta Mesa. The senior went all seven innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits. The Southwestern league strike out leader added five more to her total.
Senior Breena Anderson hit a homer run and drove in 3 runs for the Rams. Pease and Kalyn Hill had 2 RBIs each. Freshmen Lacie Ham, Maisyn Cadena, sophomore Presleigh Pilon and junior Jada Cody each drove in a run for Murrieta.
Senior Aylin Naranjo took the loss for Chaparral. She went four innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits and striking out five.
In other Southwestern league action Murrieta Valley defeated a stunned Great Oak 9-3. The Wolfpack loss put Murrieta Mesa in sole possession of first place in the Southwestern league. Vista Murrieta beat Temecula Valley.
The two teams will face each other again on Thursday.
