HS Softball: Murrieta Valley Bats Come Alive as the Nighthawks Crush Temecula Valley 11-1

Makena Smith Homers…Alexis Buchanan & Jillian Vitamanti Hit 2 Doubles Each as Nighthawks Roll

Murrieta Valley exploded at the plate Thursday and defeated Temecula Valley 11-1. The Nighthawks avenged Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to the Golden Bears when Murrieta Valley’s bats fell silent. Coach Will Picquelle got the girls back on track and the Nighthawks bats racked up 11 hits.

Makena Smith was clutch at the plate Thursday. The senior hit a home run and went 3 for 3 at the plate. Smith also drove in 4 runs and doubled for Murrieta Valley.

Senior Jillian Vitamanti, junior Kate Farren and freshman Alexis Buchanan drove in 2 runs apiece. Vitamanti and Buchanan also doubled twice each. Freshman Alexa Yarbro also drove in a run for the Nighthawks.

Abby Strom was the winning pitcher for Murrieta Valley Nighthawks Varsity. The senior allowed one run on five hits over five innings.

Kylie Gaffney took the loss for Temecula Valley. She gave up three runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning. Katelyn Hancock went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Temecula Valley in hits.

In other Southwestern League action, Murrieta Mesa slipped into a tie for first place by defeating Great Oak 7-2. Vista Murrieta crushed Chaparral 15-6.

Temecula Valley will travel to Vista Murrieta to take on the Broncos on Tuesday, May 1. Murrieta Valley will visit Great Oak to face the Wolfpack.
