HS Softball: Murrieta Valley Defeats Vista Murrieta 2-1 in Southwestern League Action

The Nighthawks’ Jennelle Muñoz Limits the Broncos to a Single Run

Murrieta Valley came back from Thursday afternoon to beat Vista Murrieta 2-1. The Broncos had beaten the Nighthawks twice in a row, 8-2 and 4-2 in the seven days. It took an outstanding pitching performance by sophomore Jennelle Muñoz to finally get the win over Vista.

Muñoz allowed just five hits to Vista Murrieta over seven innings. The lone Bronco run came in the top of 7th inning but needed no help getting out of the inning.

Murrieta Valley scored a run in the first inning. The Nighhawks scored the winning run in the fourth. Senior Makena Smith doubled in the first run for MV. Junior Kate Farren drove in the other run for the Nighthawks.

Junior Ryann Steiner and senior Kendal Cabrerra each scored a run. The Nighthawks also stole 3 bases, one each by Steiner, Farren and Cabrerra.

Briza Blanco took the loss for Vista Murrieta. She went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out eight. A bright note for the Broncos, Abie Nowak went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Vista Murrieta in hits.

In other Southwestern league action, Murrieta Mesa defeated Temecula Valley 6-3. Great Oak crushed Chaparral 12-2 in a game that was stopped after 5 innings.

Murrieta Valley will face Chaparral next Wednesday. The Broncos will battle Murrieta Mesa Tuesday.
