HS Softball: Murrieta Valley’s Big Third Inning Dooms Lakeside as MV Wins 15-2

The Nighthawks Scored 12 Runs the Third to Stop the Game after 4 Innings

Murrieta Valley rebounded from last night’s 9-6 loss to Palm Desert and crushed Lakeside 15-2 Saturday morning. The Nighthawks exploded for 12 runs in the third inning to seal Lakeside’s fate. The game was called after 4 innings and Murrieta improved their record to 5-4.

Lakeside jumped on the board with a run in the first. The Nighthawks scored 2 in the bottom of the frame and made it 14-3 in the third. The Nighthawks scored the final run of the game in the fourth.

Junior Megan Skousen led the Nighthawks with 3 RBIs. She doubled and scored. Senior Alexis Buchanan scored twice and drove in 3 more. Senior McKenna Tjaden and junior Ryann Steiner had 2 RBIs each.

Senior Makena Smith hit a home run for the Nighthawks. Junior Kate Farren doubled and an RBI. Sophomore Bailey Williams and senior Kaley Robinson drove in a run each.

Sophomore pitcher Sara Bhatt earned the victory for Murrieta Valley. She gave up just two runs on three hits. Bhatt struck out nine over 4 innings.

Dasia Waddell and Gabriella Morones drove in the 2 runs for the Titans.

Kaylin Driscoll was the starting pitcher for Lakeside. She only lasted one inning, allowing two runs on one hit. Rowan Howell relieved her and could not stop the Nighthawks. She ended up taking the loss for the Titans and went two and a third innings allowing 13 runs on 12 hits.
