The Golden Bears get their First Southwestern League Win
Temecula Valley rose to the occasion and defeated Murrieta Valley 3-1 Tuesday. It was the Golden Bears’ first Southwestern league victory of the 2018 season. Temecula is now 1-4 and tied with Chaparral for fifth place.
The Nighthawks fell behind early as Temecula Valley took the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. The Golden Bears added two more in the fifth to jump ahead 3-0. Murrieta would score a run in the sixth, but it was not enough as the Bears took the first game of the series 3-1.
Jennelle Muñoz took the loss for Murrieta Valley. She allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out six. Nighthawk ace Sarah Bhatt is injured right now and Murrieta can’t wait to get her back in the lineup.
“These athletes need to believe in their abilities and apply them on game day” said Murrieta Valley Coach Will Picquelle. “When we string hits together we are unstoppable. “Our pitching and fielding are in great condition right now…hitting is the final component that will make us successful, and difficult to beat”.
In other Southwestern league action, Great Oak crushed Murrieta Mesa 10-0. Vista Murrieta slipped past Chaparral in a 14-12 slug-fest.
The two teams face each other again Thursday.
