The Softball Team Crushes Gahr 12-4 in Division 1 while the Baseball team Slips Past Yorba Linda 3-1 in Division 3
It was a awesome day at Great Oak High School Tuesday. On the softball field, the Wolfpack crushed Gahr 12-4 to advance to play Norco in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship game. A short distance away, the baseball team slipped past Yorba Linda 3-1 to qualify for the CIF Division 3 final.
The Wolfpack just won the Inland Empire Playoffs in Girl’s Lacrosse last Saturday. Now, the students and Great Oak fans are looking forward to the weekend to see if the School can bring three championships home.
The Wolfpack girls dominated Gahr. Ramsey Suarez, Candace Yingling and Kayla Edwards led the offensive attack, hitting home runs as the Pack coasted to a 12-4 victory over the Gladiators. Great Oak has hit 55 home runs this year.
The Gladiators took the lead but the first, but the Wolfpack came right back in the second inning when Suarez crushed her ninth homer of the year. Gahr battled back again but Great Oak broke it open in the fourth when Yingling sent the ball screaming over the left-center wall to give the Wolfpack a 5-2 lead.
The baseball team jumped out too a 1-0 lead in the first when Jon Paino scored on a single by Cameron Mabee. The Wolfpack put two more runs across in the fourth as Cooper Niemi and Jonah Sebring scored.
Starting pitcher Michael Shanahan ended up the winner. The senior gave up run on 3 hits over 4 innings. Sebastian Castro got the save for Great Oak, throwing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The Softball team, ranked second in the nation will now advance to battle Norco in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship game. The Cougars are ranked the number one team in the nation with a 30-1 record. The Wolfpack is 26-3-1.
The Wolfpack baseball team will face La Canada in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 final. The Spartans are 22-7 and won the Rio Hondo league Championship.
Both games are on Saturday.
