The Southwestern League Dominates as Great Oak Finishes Second
The Southwestern League shined once again as the Vista Murrieta Boys track & field team won its second straight State Championship edging out rival Great Oak who finished second. The Broncos and Wolfpack have been dominant all season and ran away with the top 2 spots this year.
Vista Murrieta scored 54 points to take the title while Great Oak racked up 40. The 54 points that the Broncos tallied was the third highest since 1970. Esperanza from Anaheim placed third with 21 points.
Vista Murrieta’s sprinter Michael Norman helped the Broncos score 40 points. The senior won the 200 and 400 meters.events. He was also part of the winning 400 meters and 1,600 meters relay teams. Tony Mitchell placed second in the 100 meters and teammate Cole Dubots was third.
Great Oak’s Isaac Cortes also had an incredible meet, winning both the 800 and 1,600 meters races. Cortes accounted for 20 points for the Wolfpack. Cole Spencer placed second in the 3200 meters and Seth Knowlton finished second in the discus throw. Spencer Dodds rounded out the Wolfpack scoring finishing in fifth-place in the 1,600 meters.
