HS Volleyball: Chaparral Beats Murrieta Mesa in Three Sets 25-21, 28-26, 25-17

Morgan Johnson & Allison Selway Lead the Pumas Over the Rams

Chaparral evened their league record to 1-1 by defeating Murrieta Mesa in 3 closely contested sets Wednesday night, 25-21, 28-26, 25-17. The Rams record falls to 0-3 in the talented and tough Southwestern league.

Seniors Morgan Johnson and Allison Selway paced the Puma attack. Johnson had 14 kills and 12 digs while Selway added 12 kills. Another senior, Julia Haynie recorded 8 kills against the Rams.

Junior Maxeene Quiambao had 17 digs, and Alondra Almarez added 11 more. Elizabeth Johnson came up with 3 big blocks and freshman Saige Rivera had 35 assists and played one of her best matches.

Senior Kali Uhl led the Rams with 20 kills. Kiara Schmidt, another senior, came up with 15 digs and sophomore setter Kalia Thunstrom had 30 assists and served up 3 aces for Murrieta Mesa.

“We had an incredible first half of the season at Murrieta Mesa. As we have entered the Southwestern League, we are being tried and tested” said Ram Head Coach Tiffani Thunstrom. “We will never give up and never give in! Losing a match is only temporary. We will study and learn from it and come back stronger.

In other Southwestern league action, the defending champs, Temecula Valley beat Vista Murrieta in a 5 set thriller. The Golden Bears will face the Pumas today. Great Oak defeated Murrieta Valley in 3 sets.
