HS Volleyball: Chaparral Sweeps Centennial 3-0 as Morgan Johnson Leads the Pumas with 22 Kills

The Southwestern League Gets the Season Started on a Positive Note

The Girls Volleyball 2018 season in the very tough Southwestern league is underway. Chaparral pulled even at 1-1 in the new season as they defeated Centennial 3-0 Tuesday. The Pumas pounded the Huskies 25-7, 25-12, 25-13 in their second match of the season.

Our focus going into this match was on our side of the net. We needed to work on what we could control; making our first contact better, running a balanced attack, and serving tougher” said Chaparral Coach Gail Johnson. “I’m proud of the way our team responded to the challenge. They played well against Centennial, but now it’s time to get back to work”.

Morgan Johnson led the Pumas with 22 kills and 23 digs. Allison Selway and Julia Haynie added 10 kills each. Maxeene Quiambao had 15 digs and Elizabeth Johnson came up with 12 more in the victory.

Chaparral is now 1-1 this season. The Pumas lost their season opener to Santiago 3 – 1 last Thursday. They travel to Rancho Cucamonga to play Los Osos tomorrow.
