The Wolfpack Beats the Stallions in an Epic 20-25, 22-25, 26-24, 31-29 & 16-14 Battle
Great Oak won a furious, epic battle in Round One of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Girls Volleyball Championships Tuesday evening beating San Juan Hills in 5 sets 20-25, 22-25, 26-24, 31-29 & 16-14. The victory advances the Wolfpack to Round Two at home against Redondo Union Thursday.
“Best of match of the year by far for us” said Great Oak Coach Mark Motluck. “Our team is truly coming into their own, understanding and trusting one another and gaining valuable experiences this season. The Santa Barbara Tournament really gave us a shot of confidence going into the remaining schedule as well as getting ready for CIF. We felt like we matched up really well against San Juan Hills going into the match. We passed well throughout the match, stayed in system and were able to utilize all three hitting positions by spreading the ball around”.
“Our middles were very active both offensively and defensively” added Motluck. ” I think we played the big points real well but sometimes we offer ourselves a little too much drama for the faint at heart who watch our games. We’ve been able to finish our games more consistently and play the last five points better than we have during the beginning and the middle of the season. We are getting smarter with the ball and making teams have to defend longer than we have before. Just overall, the girls are building volleyball IQ and defending with earnest”.
Drew Morris led the Wolfpack with 15 kills. Delaynie Maple added 10, Elizabeth Eardley 9 and Nikki Khoshatefeh had 8 more. Brynn Sherbert came up with 42 digs and setter Aubrea Bandfield had 51 assists for Great Oak.
Great Oak will be home to face Redondo Union who swept El Toro in their Round One Match.
