The Nighthawks are now 7-5 & the Pumas 8-5 as Southwestern League action Intensifies
Murrieta Valley won it’s Southwestern league opening match against Chaparral on Monday, September 10th. The victory was the ninth overall against 5 losses for the Nighthawks. The Pumas are 9-4 with the tough loss.
In a see saw match, Murrieta Valley won the first set 25-22. The Nighthawks then took the second closely contested set 25-23. In the final set, Murrieta fought off challenge after challenge and kept the Pumas at bay to win 29-27.
Junior Maxeene Quiambao led the Pumas with 34 digs. Freshman Saige Rivera and senior Elizabeth Johnson came up with 12 digs each. Rivera also had 45 assists.

In other Southwestern league action, Murrieta Mesa took third place in the San Diego September Classic Tournament. Great Oak beat Westview last week and Vista Murrieta defeated Canyon Crest Academy in 4 sets.
The Pumas will be home to play Yucaipa Monday at 4:30pm. The Thunderbirds are 5-4 and play Redlands East Valley today.
