HS Volleyball: Paloma Valley Cruises Past La Sierra 3-1 in Round 1 of the CIF Division 6 Championship Playoffs

The Wildcats Won their First CIF Southern Section Playoff Game in over 10 Years

Paloma won their opening CIF Division 6 Southern Section Match against La Sierra 3-1 yesterday. The Wildcats overcame a 10 year drought and finally won a CIF Playoff game, beating the Eagles 25-18, 25-21 23-25 and 25-21.

‘Our team has evolved throughout the season. We have had 17 different players see varsity action this season” said Paloma Valley Head Coach Stephen Kaas. “We have seen adversity in the form of sickness, personal trials, injury, and transfer wait time”.

Gabby Hollins had 15 kills to lead the Wildcat attack. Channa Hart added another 10 kills, 3 blocks and an Ace. She was named player of the game by Coach Kass. Olivia Karwin had 22 assists and Mckenzie Coleman 13.

Madison Martinez had 13 digs and served up 4 aces for Paloma Valley. Olivia Karwin also had 3 aces and Breana Mccaughey, 12 digs. Jayde Shelton and Melanie Maclin both had 4 blocks against La Sierra.

We have a good blend of senior leadership and youthful energy” added Kass. “We are one of the more well balanced teams in the area, spreading the ball around well. We have 6 players with 100 kills or more on the season. I would be surprised if many teams could say that”.

Round 2 is Thursday and the Wildcats will be on the road to face the winner of today’s match between Segerstrom and Diamond Ranch.
