13 Local Teams Get Ready as Wildcard Play Begins Today with Round One Starting Thursday, October 18th
Five of the six Southwestern league teams are in the 2018 CIF Southern Section Girls Volleyball Championship Playoffs. A total of 12 local teams will compete in the opening round to begin on Thursday, October 18th. Santa Rosa Academy will start the playoffs today in the Division 8 Wildcard round.
Mater Dei will host Great Oak in round 1 action. The Trinity League Champions have a 32-2 record and seeded first in the playoffs. The Wolfpack ended the regular season at 22-8 and took third in the SWL.
Temecula Valley who finished second in league play will travel to battle Rancho Cucamonga. The Golden Bears were 17-9 this season. The Cougars were 26-5 and finished asa undefeated Champions of the Baseline league.
In Division 2, Murrieta Valley is on the road to Yucaipa to face the Thunderbirds. The Nighthawks are 13-12 and Yucaipa is 12-8 so far this season.
Murrieta Mesa represents the Southwestern League in Division 3. The Rams are 13-10 overall and will travel to play Laguna Beach. The Breakers were 14-12 during the regular season and were the . Wave League Co-Champions. They are seeded second in the Division.
Elsinore will start the Division 4 playoffs at home against Sonora. The Tigers were 22-6 overall and finished fifth in the Sunbelt league. The Wildcats are 17-10.
Sunbelt League Champion Paloma Valley has home court advantage over Tustin in the Division 6 opening round. The Wildcats have a record of 22-6 and the Tillers are 18-8. Paloma Valley is seeded third in the Tournament.
In Division 7, top seeded Linfield Christian hosts Banning to get things started. The Lions finished second in the Ambassador League and are 24-4. The Broncos were third in the Desert Valley League and have a record of 15-7.
Rancho Christian will play the winner of a wildcard game between Mesa Grande Academy and Desert Mirage in Division 8. The Eagles were the undefeated South Valley League Champions and finished the regular season 23-7.
Calvary Murrieta is also home for their Division 8 game. They will play the winner of the deToledo and Hillcrest Christian wildcard game. The Warriors finished second in the South Valley and has a record of 16-5.
In Division 9, Redlands Adventist Academy will be home to host Nuview Bridge. The Bulldogs are 11-8 while the Knights are 17-10.
