HS Volleyball: Vista Murrieta Beats Edison in their CIF SS Opening Match…Chaparral, Great Oak & Murrieta Valley Fall

The Broncos Win it in 5 sets 20-25, 25-19, 28-26, 19-25,15-11

Vista Murrieta slipped past Edison in Round One of the 2017 Division 1 CIF Southern Section Girls Volleyball Tournament. The Broncos battled the Chargers and won the tie breaker 15-11 to take the match. Chaparral, Great Oak and Murrieta Valley came up short in the opening round and were eliminated. 

Lexi Hadrych

The Broncos won it in 5 sets, 20-25, 25-19, 28-26, 19-25,15-11. Senior Lexi Hadrych led the way with 24 kills, 6 aces and 17 digs. Jayde Harris also had 10 kills for Vista Murrieta.

Juliette Russell

Sophomore Juliette Russell was named player of the game by Broncos Coach Ed Taitano. “Juliette ended the match with with 7 kills off 14 attempts. She also contributed 3 blocks with no blocking errors and 5 digs. This was a tough match against a good team. Juliette stepped up and made good decisions on attacking to really help the team get the win”.

Ellyn Brown had 4 blocks for the Broncos. Paige Johnstone came up with 14 digs and Jayde Harris had 8. Freshman Molly Wilson had 23 assists and Marlee Nunley had 20 more.

Vista Murrieta is now 18-7 and advances to Round 2 of the 2017 Division 1 CIF Southern Section Girls Volleyball Tournament. Their opponent will be Marymount from Los Angeles on Thursday, November 2. The Sailors are 27-7 and had a bye in the opening round.

Temecula Valley also had a bye in the opening round. They will play Harvard-Westlake.
