HS Water Polo: Great Oak Places Second in the Redlands Winter Classic Tournament

Senior Goalie Mikah Leggo, Junior Sophie Edsall & Sophomore Emma Johns Led the Wolfpack as they Start the Season 9-3

The Great Oak Girls Water Polo team placed second in the prestigious Redlands Winter Classic Tournament last week. The Wolfpack has improved greatly from last year and expectations are high.

In the Redlands Winter Classic , the team went 4-1 and placed 2nd overall in the tournament with a narrow loss to Beaumont. Their overall record is an impressive 9-3.

We are a young hard working team looking to make a move in the South Western League and in the CIF Division 5” said coach James Fenney III. “We are currently ranked 8th in the CIF Division 5 polls as the season begins”.

Emma Johns led the Wolfpack attack. The sophomore had 18 goals and 10 steals in the tournament. Junior Sophie Edsall added 15 goals and 7 steals while sophomore Megan Barrett had 9 goals in the tournament with 5 steals.

Senior Maddyn Konold had 5 goals and provided outstanding defense shutting down opponents with 12 steals and 15 prevents. Other players assisting the team with multiple goals and steals were Junior Jada Vasquez and Senior Alexis Guyer.

Mikah Leggo was solid in the net. The senior goalie had 41 saves in the tournament. Her defensive effort was one of the reasons the Wolfpack shined and took second place in the tournament.

The water polo team is currently 9-3 on the season. The Wolfpack recently beat Hemet High school 10-3 and had a 7-3 win over JW North.
