HS Water Polo: Murrieta Valley Crushes Chaparral 17-2 in the Southwestern League Round Robin


The Nighthawks Look to Repeat as Southwestern League Champions for the 18th Consecutive Season

Murrieta Valley’s dominance at Water Polo is almost legendary. The Nighthawks have won 17th consecutive Southwestern league Championships, and is looking for one more this season. Murrieta Valley won the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championship in 2015 and the Nighthawks were Semifinalists last season.

Murrieta Valley beat Chaparral 17-2 in yesterday’s Southwestern league Round Robin Tournament. The Nighthawks scored 4 goals in the first, 7 in the second, 4 more in the third and 2 in the final period.

William Barnes and Jacob Lothrop were the scoring leaders for Murrieta Valley with 3 goals apiece. Nichola Rogers, Jon Lafferty, Weston Restad and Garrett Ritter each scored two goals in the contest. Corey Moreno, Carson Paiva and Shaine Sargis each put one in the net for the Nighthawks.

Chaparral on the board when Matt Carabajal scored in the second period. Tanner Sprague also scored a goal for the Pumas in the third.

The finals of the Southwestern league Round Robin will be held a week from tomorrow. It looks like Coach Bryan Lynton’s 18th Championship is just around the corner.
